Our Story

A story of friendship.

It started decades ago with a couple of kids growing up in a small town in Southern Alberta. Friends from an early age, Juan Teran and Troy John Giesbrecht made a lifelong connection discovering music together in their teenage years. With typical rock star dreams, they hacked through their favourite anthems and generally acted like a couple of clowns until adulthood led them down separate paths in their twenties.

Juan studied cabinetmaking at SAIT in Calgary, growing a well respected business over 20+ years in their hometown of Pincher Creek. Despite an accumulation of awards in his field, he found himself making stringed instruments for friends and family in his spare time. A labour of love, he gradually perfected the craft and discovered it to be his true passion.

Living abroad as a recording  and performing artist, Troy excelled in many facets of the music industry and eventually ventured into import / export businesses.  Since returning to Vancouver in 2010 he has continued his involvement in music and enjoyed a successful career in sales.

Reconnecting a number of times over the years (they do live a 12 hour drive apart after all), a disappointing experience prompted Troy to cancel a boutique guitar order and ask his old friend to make his dream guitar. Rekindling a friendship based on their unabated mutual love of music, the pair couldn't believe how much fun they had bringing Troy's custom spec S-type electric guitar to life. Better yet, they both thought that the completed instrument was one of the finest electric guitars they had ever played.

It's funny how things work out sometimes. With Juan's fastidious craftsmanship and Troy's industry and business experience, a partnership was formed, and a company born. They couldn't have planned it better in their teens.

Some things just make sense.  Like owning a Teran Guitar.
